Posted on April 10th, 2009 1 commentThe bird flu has reached a neighborring county from where I live and I eat eggs every morning I'm worried if you can catch the bird flu through the eggs of an infected chicken. Does anyone know? Please only answer if you are absolutely positive of your answer, and if you are not please say so. Thanks.

Yes, you can contract bird flu through an infected bird's eggs.
We're told that chicken and chicken products are safe if they are cooked thoroughly, but I wouldn't eat it if there is a problem nearby.
There have been millions of birds in 51 countries that have died or have been destroyed because of the threat of bird flu, so it is certainly possible to live in a country near where bird flu is active.
They work hard to try to destroy birds that might be infected, but it is a huge job and some countries are overwhelmed with the cost and sometimes help is rather slow in coming.
I hope they are able to get the problem under control in your part of the world.
