Pheasant Hunting, a Bridge From Medieval to Modern Times

Although many have changed through the ages, the way we live, the way wee see life, and so on, our delight of pheasant hunting has stayed untouched. We could say that it is a timeless practice for the modern hunter and it would seem fair to suppose it will continue to be for many years to come.

The Texas State Bird
Posted on June 24th, 2009 No commentsThe mockingbird is the state bird of Texas. Most States in the United States of America have a State bird associated with it. The State of Texas too has a bird associated with it. The Texas State Bird is known as the Mocking Bird. Scientifically, the mocking bird is known as the mimus polyglottos. It is about ten inches in length, including its reasonably long tail. It has a shade of light grayish coat and a whitish underside. The wings and the tail of the Texas State Bird are of a darker shade of gray with white patches on it.

The Rose Breasted Grosbeak Bird
Posted on June 21st, 2009 No commentsrprise to have two male Rose-Breasted Grosbeak birds on our bird feeder in the month of May. Then to our amazement we had three females appear! These birds are neo-tropical migrants. They spend the winter months in an area from central Mexico to northern South America. In May, they return to the North American continent and take up residence in the northeastern United States and southern Canada. Their habitat is shrubbery, woodlands, and brushy stream areas adjacent to open fields. The male birds arrive before the females, select a nesting territory, and begin singing to attract a prospective mate.
